Shear Edge began in 2019 as a state of the art materials engineering company finding new and radical uses for wool fibres. Today our sustainable, wool fibre composites integrate seamlessly into plastic production machinery, and can be made into almost any product in the world!

For a long time, the wool industry in New Zealand has been in a worrying decline. So much so that it costs farmers more to shear sheep than they can get for the wool once sold.

We’re not talking about luxury Merino wool, which while still commands a high price only makes up 10% of New Zealand wool. Around 80% is actually strong wool, a coarser natural fibre traditionally used in carpets and upholstery.

Composed of keratin protein and one of the strongest natural materials on the planet, Shear Edge is finding new and radical uses for this forgotten fibre. Saving both our planet, and our proud New Zealand industry.
